If the women tests positive, it will be the first case of swine flu in England.

Currently, there have been only two confirmed cases in the UK, that of a couple in Scotland returning home from honeymoon in Cancun.

The spread has prompted the WHO to raise its threat level to a phase 4 alert. If the threat level increases further to phase 6 then a full worldwide pandemic will be declared.

But should a pandemic hit, health minister Lord Darzi has warned that the DoH’s pandemic flu hotline will not be ready until the autumn.
