LMCs warn DoH over pensions 'theft'

LMCs hit out at a 'media campaign' against public sector pensions, and rejected claims that GPs' contributions do not cover their benefits.

BMA pensions committee chairman Dr Andrew Dearden said: 'Over the past five years our contributions have covered payments out - there is no government liability. Anyone who says otherwise is lying.'

GPC member Dr John Grenville added: 'We are worth our pensions, we have paid for them, and do not want them destroyed. If the government did so, that would be a complete and utter reneging on something it has promised, and I would not be prepared to put up with that.'

LMCs unanimously backed motions slamming any removal of pensions as 'potential theft'.
