GPC chairman Dr Laurence Buckman said he had never seen such a motion before, with health secretary and health ministers usually bearing the brunt of GPs' anger.

'It should be an interesting debate,' he said. 'I'm just pleasantly surprised there isn't a vote of no confidence in me, like there usually is,' he said.

Confidence in health minister Ben Bradshaw is also up for debate, with Avon LMC deploring his 'constant vindictive remarks about general practitioners.'

The conference will take place on 11-12 June at the Institute of Education in central London. Look out on Healthcare Republic for live coverage on both days.
