Avon LMC launched GP Safe House, a website designed to give GPs confidential support on issues such as burnout, working relationship problems and stress.

Avon LMC GP director and pastoral support lead Dr Mark Corcoran said he thought the service would be welcomed by local GPs. ‘We know doctors are having a very stressful time at the moment and that can wear people down over a number of years.’

GPs in Baines, Bristol, North Somerset and South Gloucestershire will soon begin to receive their passwords for the site.

The passwords will give GPs access to four GP ambassadors who are available to give one-on-one confidential advice, as well as online information and advice.

Dr Corcoran said that Avon LMC also provided a service for GPs who were ‘really struggling to cope’. The COPE scheme offers counselling and psychiatric support for local GPs, Dr Corcoran said.

GP Safe House is based on a model created by Dr Harry Yoxall and Dr Roger Crabtree from Somerset LMC.
