Letters: Article right to highlight good indemnity services

Dr Jeremy Phipps's useful article on choosing medical defence (GP, 5 June) helpfully draws readers' attention to the need to ensure they have the best clinical negligence indemnity.

The MDU is unique in providing our GP members with a regulated clinical negligence insurance policy for any legal liability to pay compensation, including claimants' legal and defence costs, arising out of a clinical negligence claim.

This provides cover of up to £10 million for incidents that occurred and were reported at any time during membership.

The insurance policy provided by the MDU is in addition to the traditional discretionary benefits of membership such as advice and help with GMC investigations. We are pleased that Dr Phipps's article reports that most GPs are highly complimentary about the advice and support offered by the MDU and the other medical defence providers.
