Letter: Nurses are not in competition with GPs

Dear Editor

I was appalled by Dr Liam Farrell's comments 'Work I'd happily hand to nurses'.

In our profession we aim for excellence in patient care - if that means extra qualifications such as prescribing, so be it. We do not emulate doctors - we are nurses. Many of us are women and very intelligent multitaskers.

We did not choose nursing because we are 'not clever' enough to be doctors - we chose nursing to care.

Please get yourself off that castle you so obviously stand on - doctors, nurses and all those in the caring professions are there to help heal and alleviate pain and suffering. We are not in competition.

Sister Pat Jones, Sister Anne Mills, Rugby, Warwickshire.
