Letter: Abortion on demand is a negative development

Dear Editor

Dr Hunter reviewed research on outpatient terminations (GP, 2 December 2005) and concluded that 'all in all, it seems very positive'. I wish to comment on this.

Over 200,000 abortions are being performed every year in the UK, with over 6 million performed since 1967.

One of the doctors who was involved in the 1967 legislation to legalise abortion is on the record as saying he had no idea that we would end up with abortion on demand, as we now have.

Can anything that makes abortion easier really be seen as all positive?

Dr Chris Bronsdon, Sheffield, South Yorkshire.
