Mr Lansley will make the announcement at the NHS confederation conference in Manchester.

Four groups of pathfinder GP commissioning consortia were announced before consortia were rebranded as clinical commissioning groups.

The fifth wave of commissioning groups will bring the total coverage of the population by pathfinders up to 97%.

A clinical commissioning group in Milton Keynes is one of the groups chosen to take part in the new wave.

The group's lead, GP Dr Nicola Smith, said: 'GP Healthcare MK is pleased to be named as a national pathfinder. We welcome this as recognition of our progress to date.'
