Labour MPs back dispensing doctors

Labour MPs are backing the Dispensing Doctors' Association's campaign against the pharmacy white paper, its chief executive has said.

‘The majority of MPs we're speaking to are supportive of the no change option,' said Dr David Baker, who has been lobbying MPs at party conference.

‘Nobody strongly supports' the other three options, he said.

But he stressed that the battle had yet to be won. ‘It's definitely positive.  But we can't just say "This looks good, let's stop campaigning,"' he said.

Dr Baker also repeated GPC chair Dr Laurence Buckman's warning that GPs should be accurate about the effect the white paper would have on their practice.

‘If we exaggerate, we won't be taken seriously,' he said.
