In some cases hospital episode statistics provided by the private centres failed to detail patients’ diagnoses or to say what operation they had received.
The report found that performance indicators to measure the centres were ‘not always well-defined’ and definitions and reporting of adverse incidents was inconsistent.
However, patients were more satisfied with the centres than NHS services on 33 measures including cleanliness and access.
Clinical standards and facilities at the centres were also found to be of good quality overall.
