GPs in Tower Hamlets in east London met outside a hospital in Whitechapel, east London, to protest about NHS pension reforms and hand out information leaflets to patients.

Tower Hamlets GP Dr Jackie Applebee, who helped organise the rally, said the group of 50 comprised GPs, practices managers and practice staff from across Tower Hamlets.

‘One practice manager who came said she supported the industrial action because she realised it was about all public sector pensions.

‘It was really interesting to get a different perspective from a different health professional,’ Dr Applebee said.

Earlier on Thursday Dr Applebee saw emergency patients in her practice.

She said that not a single patient had complained about the fact she was taking industrial action.

‘In fact hardly anyone talked about it. One patient was worried that there wasn’t a real emergency and apologised for coming in.

'I personally have had no negative feedback from it,’ she said.
