Increases in registrar fees to be staggered

The Postgraduate Medical Education and Training Board (PMETB) has decided to stagger GP certification fee increases over the next few years.

However, the final cost is likely to remain as proposed in consultations, at £750 for certification of completion of training in 2009. From next month, the cost will be £500 and it will be reviewed at the end of each year.

The PMETB introduced a £250 basic certification charge when it took over the role of the Joint Committee on Postgraduate Training for General Practice (JCPTGP) last year.
