Hewitt to advise Boots on its medical services

Former health secretary Patricia Hewitt has taken a job advising Alliance Boots on its medical services.

According to a Whitehall committee on business appointments, she will work for the pharmacy group for up to 24 days a year, although she cannot lobby the government on its behalf until she has been out of office a year.

Last year Boots helped launch the debate about extended hours for GPs when it released research showing that 3.5 million working days are lost each year because of time spent at the doctor's.
