Six candidates, including four current GPC negotiators, today officially declared they are running for the post of GPC chairman.

Current deputy chairman Dr Laurence Buckman is standing for the second time, having stood in 2004 against outgoing chairman Dr Hamish Meldrum.

Fellow negotiators Dr Peter Holden, Dr Richard Vautrey, and Dr Andrew Dearden – who stood down as GPC Wales chairman this month – are also running.

Two GPC members from outside the negotiating team have also been nominated. Milton Keynes GP Dr Eric Rose is chairman of the GPC practice finance subcommittee and has sat on the GMS contract formula review group.

Cleveland LMC secretary Dr John Canning was 2006 LMCs conference chairman and chairs the BMA’s professional fees committee.

The GPC’s members vote at their meeting on 19 July to decide the chairman.
