Practices in England can now compare their referral rates and other clinical data sets with other practices and national averages on the NHS Comparators website.
Clinicians and commissioners can compare around 200 sets of NHS data locally or across the country to identify trends or potential efficiency savings.
The data, adjusted to reflect age and gender, includes:
- GP practice referral/admission rates
- QOF data
- Prescribing data
- Patient survey results
Dr Ian Greaves, a GP from Staffordshire, used the tool to commission an asthma clinic after finding that his practice referred more patients than the local average.
‘We felt that the high number of admissions could be avoided if urgent care services were better so we agreed with the trust to bring those services here to the practice,' he said.
