DoH national clinical commissioning network lead in England and NAPC president Dr James Kingsland was awarded an OBE for his services to general practice. The Merseyside GP continues to have a central role in support of the current reform agenda for the NHS and has been a GP trainer.

Dr Kingsland said he was ‘delighted and honoured’ by the award.

He said he was especially honoured that the award recognised his work in general practice.

‘It's actually recognising services for general practice, which is what I’ve said I really am – I’ve always been a general practitioner,’ Dr Kingsland said.

Former GP Dr Paul Zollinger-Read, director of commissioning development at East of England SHA, was made a CBE for his services to the NHS.

East London GP Dr Gabriel Ivbijaro was made an MBE for services to the NHS, Northumberland GP Dr William Cunningham was similarly honoured for services to primary care. Former Northamptonshire GP Dr Peter John Gordon was made an MBE for services to emergency care as was GP Dr Hamukh Joshi for services to medical education and to the RCGP.
