GPs to receive guidance alerts

NHS Evidence will provide automatic notifications of changes to guidance as part of an overhaul to the website's services.

The updated version of the NHS's clinical evidence website enables GPs to receive notifications of changes to guidance. It will also provide updates about research in users' areas of interest and summaries of fresh evidence.

GPs will also be able to access advice on meeting cost-saving targets by the Quality, Innovation, Productivity and Prevention (QIPP) initiative.

This includes monthly advice on where funding could be cut based on reviews by the UK Cochrane Centre. It also includes access to a growing database of more than 100 evidence-based case studies showing how staff are improving care while cutting costs.

The website's search features have also been improved. It now includes search prompts, spelling suggestions and related search suggestions.

The updated version of the NHS Evidence website was launched at the NICE conference in Birmingham this week.
