GPs are covered during swine flu outbreak

GP members are fully indemnified during a flu outbreak, according to defence organisation the Medical and Dental Defence Union of Scotland (MDDUS).

The reassurance that its members have full indemnity protection throughout the viral pandemic follows fears that GPs could strike because they were uninsured.

Dr George Fernie, head of the MDDUS’s medical division, said: ‘If GPs follow guidance and advice offered by the NHS, GMC and MDDUS, they shouldn’t fear being any further exposed to complaints or claims for damages during a pandemic.’
