GPC says revalidation starts in 2011

The GPC is writing to practices to reassure them that revalidation is still two years off.

The move is felt to be necessary because a number of PCTs have been broadcasting inaccurate information about the process, including suggestions that GPs should prepare for its imminent start.

‘PCT medical directors are saying to prepare for it this year, and that it’s going to look like the RCGP’s pilots,’ GPC chairman Dr Laurence Buckman said.

‘It isn’t. It's not imminent, and it's not going to look like that, because it's a pilot.’

Revalidation will instead start in 2011, he said.

‘All we are doing is reminding LMCs what the government timetable is,’ he added.
