Practice funding should emulate the way PCTs are funded, said GPC negotiator Dr Chaand Nagpaul. Differential uplift in different areas would gradually raise budgets for up to 20 years until all practices reached formulaic budgets, said Dr Nagpaul. Any formula would be applied to a larger global sum, he said.
‘The government has taken the view that PCTs need protection from reductions in income so it is ridiculous to think that GP practices don't,' said Dr Nagpaul.
Dr Nagpaul said he was still in very early stages of discussions with the government, and was looking beyond the current legal challenge over the cuts to MPIG this year.
