Speaking at the LMCs conference in London on Thursday, Dr Gurdip Hear, a member of Berkshire LMC, said the GPC ‘constantly distances itself from PMS practices'.
He said PMS practices pay LMC levies to support the GPC in its negotiations with the government, but the GPC does not fully support PMS practices.
Dr Hear also criticised the GPC for not supporting it during the PMS reviews that PCTs are carrying out around the country.
He said: ‘How sad it is that there is an organisation that will help PMS practices fight in court, but it is not the GPC.'
But Dr Laurence Buckman, chairman of the GPC, said he believes the GPC does support PMS practices.
He said: ‘PMS is a local contract. It is ministers that stopped us negotiating for PMS, not us.
‘PMS practices deserve the GPC defending them. We can and do defend PMS practices, but what we can't do is locally negotiate for them.'
