GPC asks DoH to allay fears over flexible careers

The GPC has called for a meeting with health ministers over the flexible careers scheme.

The committee is concerned about the freeze on new entrants to the scheme which has helped 2,500 GPs, and the development of the scheme to strategic health authorities.

'We fear the scheme will fall victim to the ongoing NHS deficit,' said GPC negotiator Dr Richard Vautrey.

Under the scheme, contributions are made to employment costs for GPs who work less than half time.
