GP-to-GP records transfer not in IT enhanced service

GP-to-GP records transfer will not form part of the directed enhanced service (DES) for IT from April 2006 because it is not ready, the GPC has confirmed.

GPC negotiator Dr Richard Vautrey said he hoped the system would be ready for April 2007.

'The reality is that in terms of implementation, GP-to-GP records transfer is really at a pilot stage,' he said.

Connecting for Health joint clinical GP lead Professor Mike Pringle emphasised that there was 'no fundamental delay' in the GP-to-GP transfer programme and that there would be pilots in the spring and summer.

He was confident that it would be ready in time for the updated DES from April 2007.
