GMC warns doctors to declare ASBOs

Doctors who receive anti-social behaviour orders (ASBOs) must report them immediately, the GMC has warned.

The warning comes as the GMC publishes revised guidance to clarify the rules on reporting convictions.

The old guidance specified that there was no need to report traffic offences, leading many to assume there was no need to report any offence that did not lead to a criminal record.

But Jane O'Brien, the GMC’s head of standards, warned that doctors should report any non-traffic offence without delay.

‘We don't imagine all that many doctors get ASBOs,’ she added. ‘But you never know.’
