The tool, designed with the 'skill sets and experience of GPs and practice managers in mind' aims to help would be commissioners learn through role plays and computer simulation of scenarios they woudl be likely to encounter in the real world.

NHS Alliance chairman Dr Michael Dixon said: ‘The onus is increasingly on GPs and practices managers to commission services in an intelligent way to ensure they meet the health needs of their patients. By using the resources available to them wisely, GPs can empower their patients.’

The tool was developed by healthcare firm Humana Europe.
