The Children’s Mutual asked 1,000 of its customers with five and six-year-old children which profession they wished to pursue.

Doctor (number 1 choice in 2008) was second behind teacher. Nurse was the ninth most popular choice in 2008 but does not feature in 2009.

This year’s top 10 is:

1 Teacher
2 Doctor
3 Vet
4 Footballer
5 Fireman/woman
6 Actor/actress
7 Policeman/woman
8 Dancer
9 TV/cartoon character
10 Hairdresser
