IT failings make DES 'impossible'

Practices are being prevented from achieving full payment under the IM&T DES, because their IT systems are not up to the job, the conference of LMCs has warned.

Component 4, which requires practices to migrate to a Connecting for Health accredited hosted system, is worth about one sixth of its total value.

But Dr John Hughes, vice-chairman of Manchester LMC, said this was 'currently unachievable'. 'The majority of systems are not compatible with level 4 of the DES.'

LMC leaders backed a motion requiring IT providers to 'urgently upgrade their system so we can achieve level 4 of the DES'. A motion condemning the 'continued waste of money on the national IT project' was also carried.
