England clinical directors for older people and dementia named

The DoH has named England's new clinical directors for older people and dementia.

Professor David Oliver, a consultant physician and clinical director at the Royal Berkshire NHS Foundation Trust and government advisor, will look after older people.

Meanwhile professor Alistair Burns, professor of old age psychiatry at the University of Manchester and Manchester Academic Health Science Centre, will be responsible for dementia.

Phil Hope, care services minister, said: ‘[Professor Oliver's] influence will be critical in enabling us to ensure that all older people get the services that they need as individuals.'

He added: ‘I am confident that (Professor Burns) will help drive up standards of care across the country and look forward to working with him to build the best possible services for people with dementia.'
