East London GP may become world Doctor of the Year

He may have failed to be elected BMA chairman but East London GP Dr Sam Everington is in the running to be crowned Doctor of the Year at an international conference.

He will learn his fate at the Wonca (World Organisation of Family Doctors) world conference in Singapore later this month.

The Bromley-by-Bow GP was nominated by the RCGP and represents Europe after winning the Wonca European Award for Excellence in Healthcare: The 5-star doctor in September 2006.

The award recognised community-focused doctors and commended Dr Everington’s practice for the more than 100 projects, including complementary therapy, art facilities and NVQ courses, it ran.
