The DoH has told PCTs not to consult GPs when planning for new polyclinics.

A presentation given by DoH officials advises PCTs to ‘ensure incumbents are not involved' with the procurement process. It says this would create conflict of interest.

A separate presentation, given by a senior official at Hull PCT, said that the polyclinics would ‘act as a catalyst for reconfiguring local GP services'.

The documentation was unearthed by the Conservative Party.

Shadow Conservative health secretary Andrew Lansley said the documents prove ‘that Labour plans the destruction of the family doctor service as we know it'.
