DoH to push telephone consultations in green strategy

The DoH is expected to push GP telephone consultations as part of its new green strategy 'Saving Carbon, Improving Health'.

The NHS is to pledge to become one of England’s leading sustainable and low carbon organisations and to meet the government’s target of an 80% reduction in carbon emissions by 2050.

Each NHS organisation will determine how it is to reduce its carbon footprint. The NHS target is to reduce its 2007 carbon footprint by 10% by 2015.

NHS chief executive David Nicholson said: ‘As the biggest public sector employer in the country, the NHS needs to lead by example. I want to encourage NHS staff to really get involved and do their bit to create a greener NHS.’
