DoH launches smoking cessation campaign

30-second interventions will form the cornerstone of a new smoking cessation campaign targeting GPs.

The approach is based on ‘three As’, ask, advise and act: asking about smoking status, advising of health benefits and acting on responses.

Evidence suggests that such an approach is the ‘single most cost effective and clinically proven action that a healthcare professional can undertake’, the DoH says.

Materials supporting the campaign will be available from the NHS Smokefree website.
