Digital X-rays for every hospital

The DoH has announced that digital X-rays will be available across the whole country by the end of 2008.

Currently 92 Trusts and 250 hospitals have already installed digital X-ray technology as part of the National Programme for IT. Rolling this out to the remainder of hospitals will save in excess of £6.2 million in the first year, say the DoH.

Health secretary Patricia Hewitt said: 'The NHS leads the way in using digital X-rays, which are not yet being used by all leading private healthcare providers.

'This new system is helping doctors do what they do best - treat patients faster and better - and will provide NHS users with a first class 21st century service.'
