Charity Commission 'won't investigate NMC'

The Charity Commission will not launch a formal investigation into allegations of 'racism and bullying' within the NMC.

The Charity Commission was urged to investigate by health minister Ben Bradshaw after the allegations were raised in parliament in March. Yesterday the regulator told HCR it will not be investigating, but will continue to ‘monitor the situation closely’.

Earlier this month a report by the Commission for Healthcare and Regulatory Excellence (CHRE) found ‘serious weaknesses’ in the NMC’s governance, leading to the resignation of the president, vice-president and chief executive.

The NMC is working towards a new governance structure and the election of a new president by January 2009.
