RCGP Curriculum - 15.9 Rheumatology and Musculoskeletal
This section of our curriculum guide refers to statement 15.9, Rheumatology and Musculoskeletal, produced by the Royal College of General Practitioners (RCGP).
Musculoskeletal disorders are common, accounting for 15–20 per cent of GP consultations, and cause a significant amount of morbidity and disability.
Most musculoskeletal disorders are chronic conditions; their management presents a number of challenges to GPs. The GP has a particular role in the long-term management of chronic pain and disability. GPs may also be involved in life-saving procedures in patients who have suffered trauma. They are very likely to be involved in the pre-hospital management of less serious trauma and in the post-hospital management of all types of patients. GPs need to be aware of and deal with special situations such as non-accidental injury in both children and elderly people.
Here we have collated key articles from our journals to help you meet the curriculum requirements in this area.
