CD guide to help GPs with commissioning

A guide to help GPs navigate their way through the minefield of practice-based commissioning (PBC) has been launched by the Improvement Foundation.

'Practice Based Commissioning: A Practical Guide' combines advice from the DoH and public and private organisations involved in healthcare provision.

The CD, which was tested on delegates at the NHS Confederation conference in June in London, contains case studies and information about hitting national 18-week patient pathway targets.

It was the brainchild of Cheshire GP Dr David Lyon, one of the Improvement Foundation's clinical advisers.

He said: 'The CD will give clinicians increased confidence and improve outcomes for patients.'

Improvement Foundation chief executive Ruth Kennedy said: 'This is an exciting development available to all practices, PCTs and other organisations interested in PBC across England. Initial feedback from delegates was extremely positive and we hope people will find it useful.'
