Call for better training for research nurses

Clinical research nurses need better professional development opportunities and career structures, Europe's largest clinical research body has told the Chief Nursing Officer.

The Institute of Clinical Research has set up a special interest group to focus on the role of research nurses, and plans to carry out a training needs survey and develop a set of development needs competencies.

Caroline Gunnell, chair of the special interest group, said: ‘One of the main issues we will be tackling is that there is no recognised professional role for clinical research nurses.

‘It is our mission to become internationally recognised as the coordinating body for research nurses, and provide standards, training and professional development.'
