Board game is DoH secret weapon to fight swine flu

The DoH has launched a board game to help GP practices prepare for the outbreak of pandemic flu.

Two versions have been developed – one specifically aimed at practices and a second for other healthcare or business organisations.

Advice on how to play the Flu Pandemic Game – invented by Camden PCT – makes clear it requires three to eight players, printouts from a resource pack available on the DoH website, dice and pens or pencils.

Players are warned to use job titles rather than their real names when they play, however, because the game may prove too traumatic. The instructions warn: ‘Some people may find it disturbing to play the game using the details of their own organisation. The game is a simulation and has no effect at all on subsequent events, but it can seem a little like fortune telling.’

According to instructions ‘the game usually lasts between 45 minutes and one hour, but this will vary according to the length of time you wish to spend discussing the issues raised’.
