BMA launches poster campaign explaining how hard GPs work

The BMA has published a poster detailing a day in the life of a typical GP, to highlight to patients how hard practices work, and sent it to each UK practice.

The poster aims to make clear how much work GPs do behind the scenes in addition to the 7,000 consultations a year that they each carry out.

‘The poster shows patients that while daily surgeries take up a large part of their doctor’s working day, they are also busy carrying out telephone consultations, tackling huge amounts of paperwork and making home visits. They also have to maintain the business of actually running the practice and many will still work for the local out-of-hours service,’ a spokesman said.

Copies of the poster are available in Welsh and English.
