BMA chairman brands pay award 'a disgrace'

BMA chairman Dr Hamish Meldrum has made his first appearance online to brand the recent pay review 'a disgrace'.

Appearing on BMAtv, the organisation's YouTube channel, Dr Meldrum criticises the government's sustained attack on the profession and pledges support for GPs against private providers.

In the nine-minute interview Dr Meldrum reviews his first year in office as BMA chairman and explains the challenges he faces in the next 12 months.

Dr Meldrum said it was important that the BMA increases its online presence so that its message is ‘easily accessible and tailored to how members wish to receive it'.

The BMA has confirmed it is launching a publicity campaign to counteract the negative coverage that GPs have received in the press.

Earlier this month the Doctors' and Dentists' Review Body froze income for the 90 per cent of practices with MPIGs and cut correction factors.
