Bereaved husband thanks GP for outstanding care

A husband who lost his wife to ovarian cancer wants to highlight the outstanding care she had received from their GP, Dr David Pouncey.

Dr Pouncey has worked at the Minchinhampton surgery in Gloucester for over 15 years.

Mr Wright was so impressed by the care he and his wife received that he wants to nominate the GP for an award.

‘He’s known locally as a saint,’ said Mr Wright, whose wife passed away earlier this year.

‘It was Dr Pouncey who initially diagnosed her.

‘He gave us his mobile number and said to ring him anytime, rather than the on-call doctors that knew nothing about her.’

Dr Pouncey, supporting GP’s Valuing General Practice campaign, said: ‘It’s all part of what is expected of us in palliative care — to ensure patients see someone that knows the situation well.’
