Average nurse pay increases 1.1% in three months

Nurses' average basic salary increased by 1.1% to £26,800 in the quarter ending December 2009, according to official figures.

The NHS Information Centre adds that qualified nurses have average basic pay of £29,200 and total earnings of £33,400. Unqualified nurses average £16,400 basic and £19,800 total.

Reasons given for the extra 15% earned on top of basic pay were overtime, location payments and hours-related pay.

Total new contract consultant earnings have increased by 1.4% to £121,100 over the last year.
