Which areas have the most GP practices rated outstanding by the CQC?

Find England's hotspots for outstanding general practice as GPonline identifies the top five CCGs with the highest proportion of GP practices awarded the top CQC rating, and maps outstanding practices across the country.

Across England as a whole, just 4% of practices have been awarded the top rating following CQC inspection so far.

But the CCGs with the highest proportion of outstanding ratings push far beyond this, with the top five all having at least 20% in this category.

Outstanding practices can be found across the country, with almost half (45%) of all 209 CCGs in England having at least one.

Practices in London are statistically the least likely to be receive the top rating, coming in at 1%. This compares to 5% each in the NHS Midlands and East region and in the South region, and 4% in the North region.

CCGs with most outstanding practice

5 – Rushcliffe CCG – 20% outstanding

Two practices in Rushcliffe CCG out of a total 10 rated so far have been rated outstanding by CQC inspectors. The rest have all been rated good, giving the area a 100% good and outstanding record. Around a quarter of practices in the area have yet to be rated.

4 – North Derbyshire CCG – 21% outstanding

A total of five practices out of 24 inspected in North Derbyshire CCG have been found outstanding. A third of practices have not yet been rated.

3 – Blackpool CCG – 21% outstanding

Inspectors have found three outstanding practices out of 14 rated in Blackpool CCG. A third of practices have not yet been rated.

2 – South Warwickshire CCG – 27% outstanding

There are four practices rated outstanding in South Warwickshire CCG so far, out of a total 15 inspected. All others have been rated good, but over half have not yet been visited by inspectors.

1 – Nottingham West CCG – 38% outstanding

Nottingham West CCG is currently the area statistically most likely to feature outstanding practice. Three practices out of eight inspected have been given the top rating, with only a quarter of practices in the area yet to be rated.
