Accessible growth charts would aid breastfeeding

How refreshing to read about a GP acknowledging the benefits of breastfeeding and highlighting how poorly it is often promoted (GP, 15 February).

Growth charts are particularly important. I have seen a number of cases where unnecessary paediatric referrals - due to apparent concerns over weight gain rates - generating parental anxieties, could have been avoided, had such growth charts been more readily accessible.

Why are they not printed in the Red Book, when we as health professionals are 'promoting' breastfeeding?
