Access is 'not high priority for patients'

Extended hours are not a priority for patients, according to comments attributed to SHA representatives.

SHAs have since distanced themselves from the report in the Health Service Journal.

Mandy Wearne, NHS North West executive lead for the Darzi review, reportedly commented: 'There's an acceptance that extending hours is good for patients, but it hasn't been a major concern.'

The comments were echoed by a spokesman for NHS East of England SHA.

However, after the report appeared Ms Wearne was unavailable for comment.

A spokesman for NHS East of England said comments on access attributed to a spokesman were not in line with its official position.
