Letters: Revalidation will build on efficient local systems

The GMC is conscious that revalidation must be implemented robustly but without placing unnecessary burdens on both the NHS and the profession (GP, 13 November).
Working closely with our key interests and drawing on the outcomes of consultation and piloting we can ensure that the implementation of revalidation is straightforward, cost effective and delivers real benefits.
The key to success is for us to build on local clinical governance and appraisal, so that as healthcare organisations are able to rely on those processes to provide assurance to their patients about the quality of the care they deliver, so the GMC can use the outputs of those same processes for revalidation.
Put simply, efficient local systems, high-quality healthcare and assurance to patients go hand in hand.
