GPC works on DDRB solution

The GPC has submitted proposals to the DoH about how to distribute the 0.8 per cent pay award for 2010/11.

If GP leaders are unable to negotiate an alternative, the DoH will follow a Doctors' and Dentists' Review Body (DDRB) plan that would mean most MPIG practices see just half of the pay rise (GP, 9 April).
GPC chairman Dr Laurence Buckman said: 'We are currently in discussion with the department about how to divide up the tiny pay award that GPs have been offered after it interfered with the DDRB award.'
The DDRB recommended a 1.34 per cent rise for GMS GPs, which it said would protect them against rising expenses.
But the DoH cut the award to 0.8 per cent and ordered practices to find an additional 1 per cent from efficiency savings.
The GPC would not reveal how it wants the pay award distributed.
Dr Buckman added: 'We will be issuing further information when we have it, but we want to keep GPs informed about where we are with this.'
Deputy GPC chairman Dr Richard Vautrey said the committee was expecting a DoH response to its proposals 'very shortly'.
