Scottish LMCs Conference - Enhanced services disrepute warning

By Susie Sell, 19 March 2010

Clinically questionable enhanced services are bringing GPs 'into disrepute', Scottish LMCs agreed.

A motion deploring the 'continuing introduction of clinically questionable DES (directed enhanced service) and LES (local enhanced service) schemes' won unanimous support.

'Enhanced services payments reinforce everyone's idea that we will jump through hoops for pitiful amounts of money, and we do,' said Lothian LMC member Dr Sandy Sutherland.

'They are going to bring the profession into disrepute and we should try to get out of as many of them as we can.'

The motion also called for measures to prevent delays in allocation of DES funding.
