Falls clinics are not sharing data

Specialist falls prevention clinics are failing to share patient data with primary care teams, a report says.
Falls clinic: poor communication
In a survey by the Royal College of Physicians, just 39 per cent of the 1,028 patients questioned were sure information about their attendance at clinics was passed to their GP practice.
This indicated poor communication between the services and practices and/or between practices and patients, the report said.
Injurious falls, including more than 60,000 hip fractures annually, are the leading cause of accident-related mortality in older people, the college says.
In the survey, Older People's Experiences of Falls Prevention Services, three quarters of clinic attendees had a positive experience, but poor communication was a 'recurring theme'.
The report also found that one in seven patients did not understand the outcomes of their check-ups at falls clinics.
