Quality account plans 'relaxed'

The government has relaxed regulations on the number of improvement targets NHS providers must include in their quality accounts.
In response to its consultation on quality accounts - the annual reports which some NHS providers will be required to publish from this year - the DoH said it would allow providers to decide the maximum number of priorities set out in the accounts.
Health minister Mike O'Brien said this would allow larger organisations to set a higher number of priorities.
The response also highlighted that the statement on participation in clinical audit has been simplified. It added that the DoH will stipulate that providers should explain how clinical audits and the recruitment of patients to clinical research have improved patient care in their organisation.
Primary care providers will be expected to provide quality accounts from 2011.
